About This Game Welcomed by the fluttering of cherry blossom, the main character, Brian, starts a new high school life in Japan. Brian soon starts to get along with two girls in the same class after they start to talk to him. With their help, Brian gradually learns Japanese culture and customs. He deepens his friendships with each girl as they teach him how to study and spend time together after school. He gradually is able to survive through the commuter rush, May sickness, the rainy season, and more as he experiences Japanese culture for the first time. Summer After a particularly unpleasant rainy season, summer vacation starts at last. Brian gets to experience a lot of fun things, including a beach trip with the girls in their swimsuits and summer festivals in yukata. He also experiences popular Japanese summer activities, such as suikawari (watermelon splitting) and summer festival food stalls. And what he looks forward to more than anything is the most popular otaku event in the world, held twice a year– Comic Market. He goes to the venue with his heart racing with excitement, having long dreamt of experiencing his first Comiket. What he sees there is……a battlefield, just as rumored!? Fall The destination of the annual school trip is Japan’s most famous ancient city, Kyoto. The three enjoy sightseeing among the old streets and alleys, and experience the traditional culture of Japan to the fullest. Back at school, Brian gets to experience an actual cultural festival, which he has seen a lot in anime. He is ecstatic when he gets to help run the maid cafe booth. He also enjoys cosplaying for Halloween, which has rapidly developed in Japan in the last few years. With the beautiful colors of autumn in Japan, he deepens his understanding of Japanese culture further. Winter After experiencing a Japanese-style Christmas party, Winter Comic Market has arrived! When I was a teen, I was obsessed with Japanese culture and this would have been a dream come true! Now there’s a new game out there that can help you live out that fantasy while learning about Japanese culture called Japanese School Life!Japanese School Life is a visual novel that follows a foreign exchange student named Brian. Brian is in love with the Otaku culture and wanted to be immersed in it. Thus, he took an adventure and became a foreign exchange student. However, he didn’t realize how much he would learn from this experience.Plus, Brian didn’t expect to make friends right away. Luckily two of the girls in his class, Chiyoko and Arisa decided to make friends with him. From there, they take Brian to all the places he wants to explore and teaches him about Japanese lifestyle and culture.I admit, back in the day I was totally a weeaboo. I watched any anime that I could get my hands on and read any manga I had access to. Even though I got older and fell more into comic books, I still have always had a curiosity for Japanese culture. I still really want to go to Japan, especially since I’ve never been there.Playing Japanese School Life really re-lit that fire in me to start saving up enough money to go to Japan. It’s fun learning about the different festivals and foods they enjoy. The fact that they can get so many different things at a convenience store blows my mind. When I think of convenience store, I think of a gas station where the hot dogs have been on the rollers for 10+ hours. Yet that’s all I know.However, I didn’t realize that the Japanese also eat Zongzi, aka sticky rice dumplings in America. Which are some of my most favorite Chinese traditional foods, and are made for celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival. So, when Chiyoko and Arisa were explaining where Zongzi came from, I had already heard the story from my other half. I thought it was pretty cool they threw that in there.So, if you’re wanting to learn more about Japan in the form of a Anime-like visual novel, Japanese School Life would be fun for you! Check it out!. This was a pretty cute VN.I wasn't actually expecting to learn things about Japan though.There is a lot of information mixed in, from festivals to types of mochi to Comiket.It would have been nice to the see the routes taken a bit further, but it's still a nice story.My only nit-pick is that there didn't seem to be any sound options, so at times the music would drown out the voice acting. Oh, and the Neko mode was a nice touch.. I never thought I would learn something from a Visual Novel.10/10. unfortunately couldnt find tidy the quest continuesbut i did learn a bit of japaneez so that is cool and good. It's decent. Honestly it has its moments where it's interesting to learn about Japanese culture, but after a while it sort of becomes bland. I can't complain too much. I wouldn't have bought it normally, but it came with the Sekai Project Humble Bundle. There are a few decisions but they dont make a big impact. I'd give it like a 7/10 if I were to rate it.. Dumb, stillted weeabo self-insert the game.
